We protest against the fact that the
Catholic church has engaged this company to cater for the participants of the XX.
World Youth Day, a company making profits from the suffering of refugees,
prisoners and war!
Public protest – friday 19th – 4 pm
behind the cathedral near the river
The management of the WYD did not
officially react to an open letter of antiracist groups, which criticises its
contract with Sodexho and calls attention to its dubious business. The answer
to an inquiry by telephone was that the WYD was not interested in our
criticism. The comment of the the bureau of the WYD: „Sodexho is our
partner.“
We welcome the visitors
of the World Youth Day who have come to our city from all over the world.
We hope they will enjoy their days in Cologne unmolested and in safety. Due
to Pope Benedict’s visit there is a massive police presence in Cologne.
In this context we would like to remind you that numerous people without legal documents
(“illegals”) live in Cologne, too. To them, intensified controls by
the police mean the fear of being
detected and of being deported to their “home countries” from where they have fled. We ask you to interfere, to ask for information and to help each
other whenever you witness passport controls by the police!
